# City Folding or video outpainting?
Choose the transformation.

> One changes the city’s geometry. The other adds surroundings to a video. Asking for the wrong task can produce a visually plausible result that still misses your brief.

## Is City Folding a kind of video outpainting?

City Folding and video outpainting solve different problems. A City Folding brief asks streets and buildings to bend upward and overhead. Video outpainting generates areas beyond an existing video frame to change its composition. This site prepares City Folding prompts from a still reference; our separate outpainting workflow processes short MP4 clips through Wan3Prime. Neither task guarantees exact preservation of scene details.

## Compare the requested change

| Decision | City Folding brief | Our video outpainting workflow |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Input here | Optional local street photo | A short MP4 submitted on Wan3Prime |
| Desired result | An architectural fold within the scene | New surroundings beyond the original frame |
| What this page delivers | Copyable or downloadable direction text | A link to a separate processing workspace |
| Geometry to protect | Stable near pavement and connected distant buildings | Source subject, horizon and continuity at the new edges |
| Evidence available | An original concept still; no rendered effect sample | Recorded MP4 outpainting examples on the separate tool |

Use a folding brief for an impossible skyline. Use outpainting when the problem is missing visual space around an existing clip. Reframing a video does not demonstrate that a City Folding effect has been generated.

## Three briefs that lead to different choices

“Make the distant road curve over the near street” is an architectural transformation. Begin with a readable city reference and a connected fold direction. Making the canvas wider does not create that movement.

“Keep this ocean shot and add sky above it for a portrait composition” is an outpainting brief. It needs an existing video and a description of the missing surroundings. The original scene does not need to fold.

“Keep my footage untouched and place it inside a taller canvas” is a conventional edit. Padding or a background layer can protect exact source pixels. A generative workflow is unsuitable if your delivery requires unchanged lettering or a precise product label.

## Read each tool’s scope before paying

The [City Folding prompt studio](https://cityfolding.com/#generate) is free to use for planning. Purchasing shared Wan3Prime credits does not enable a City Folding renderer here. For a rendered City Folding effect, inspect a dedicated service’s interface, examples and terms before submitting a source.

The separate [video outpainting workspace](https://wan3prime.com/video-outpainting) has its own upload limits and task quote. Read its input and audio restrictions rather than treating “video AI” as one interchangeable capability.

## Choosing between folding and expansion

### Can outpainting create the folding movement?

Outpainting extends a video’s spatial canvas. It is not evidence of a verified City Folding transformation, even if a prompt contains both words.

### Can a City Folding prompt change a video’s aspect ratio?

A direction can describe a target frame, but the rendering service controls its supported formats. This site exports text and does not encode an output video.

### Are both workflows operated by this City Folding page?

No. City Folding planning stays in this browser. Accounts, payments and the separate MP4 outpainting task are provided by Wan3Prime.

### Which option preserves every original pixel?

Use a conventional editing method if exact original pixels are required. Neither a folding transformation nor our generative outpainting workflow promises that preservation.
